Volunteer Program - Statement of Philosophy and Beliefs

The Volunteer Program is integral to the services of Luke’s Place and of the community, broadening the range of support available to abused women in Durham Region. It also provides an opportunity for individuals, especially woman abuse survivors, to reduce the impact of such abuse, to contribute to public awareness and to partner with the community in other violence prevention initiatives towards the goal of providing a seamless response to woman abuse in Durham Region.

Volunteers are a valuable human resource and bring a variety of skills and experience to their positions. They require and deserve adequate training, support, supervision and recognition for their work. Luke’s Place provides this support and encourages volunteer involvement in the planning, implementing and provision of its services.

Volunteers have rights and responsibilities, and make different but equally important contributions to the work of Luke’s Place. The confidentiality of clients, donors, other volunteers, and staff is given the highest priority at all times.
